How I Cleared My Skin. Pt 1

For those of you that don’t know, I have been dealing with acne for most of – if not all – of my teenage years. When I say acne I don’t mean I few spots on my forehead, I had cystic acne all over my skin and mainly on my cheeks. Having acne throughout my teenage years was very hard and definitely formed my lack in self-confidence. But over the past 5 years I think I have come to a very good understanding of how my skin reacts to certain things and I cleared up my acne.

Looking back over the years, I have spent hundreds of pounds trying to find the right cream that will clear my skin and give me instant flawless skin. I tried everything from; expensive wash sets that were over £100, to a bar of soap to strip all the oils out of my skin. I tried to eat less salty foods, eat less dairy and even made a mask with egg whites (not very good).

But this is what i found worked for me. So it all started when I finally decided to take my mum’s advice, as always she was right. My mum loves knowing about all the super foods and what foods can heal and harm your body, so I started to use something more natural. She brought me aloe vera lotion and I used that every night consecutively for around 3 weeks and that’s when I started to notice a difference in my skin. It was a lot calmer and felt smoother.

Now onto the products I use currently and how I use them. I wash my face everyday with a gentle face wash either Avene Cleanance Cleansing Gel or Neutrogena pink grapefruit facial wash. I normally switch between the two as they’re both good and leave my skin feeling clean but not dry. I use both of these with my Vanity Planet spin for perfect skin brush as this give me a deep clean but is very gentle on my skin, it also get into all the pores around my nose.IMG_6170

USE A TONER, this step in skin care is so easily missed and admittedly I never use to do it, it removes all the dirt and oil that may not have been removed from washing skin and also balances out your PH scale after washing your face. The toner’s I like to use are Vitamin E Hydrating toner and Seaweed Toner For Combination Skin. Depending how my skin feels I like to change between the two.

Moisturizer have to be one of the most satisfying things to apply when you have done your full skin routine, nothing I love more than rubbing my moisturizer in and my skin glowing and feel SOO soft. I use a day moisturiser in the morning which is the Vitamin E moisturiser for dry skin. Then at night, I prefer to use an oil so my skin can soak it all in while I sleep. The oil I use is from The Body Shop Vitamin E range – I do find that range and their products work best with my skin – it’s the Vitamin E Overnight Oil.

IMG_6166I also think its important to relax and use a face mask every now and then; one of my favourite masks is again from The Body Shop (I love their products, if you can’t tell!) it’s the British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask. I will do another post on products I like to use when relaxing and having a little pamper night, but for now these are the products I swear by and have helped clear my skin massively!

I’d like to also mention that these products have helped but I do still get the odd spot and that is completely normally. Everyone’s skin is different and reacts differently so something that worked for me may not work for you, but if you have tried everything – or don’t want to spend half your yearly wage on skin products – I highly recommend my easy and affordable way to clear skin.
